More than 760,000 people have been left homeless by savage floods in southern region of West Bengal, India. By late Saturday, four days of massive storms had washed away thousands of homes and at least four people were dead, dpa wuoted DNA as reporting today. Relief and rescue operations were under way, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharaya, who toured the worst-hit West Midnapore district, told DNA. "Rain has stopped but the situation is grim in many places," he said. "Relief material provided so far is not adequate." Helicopters will drop medicine, rice and other foods to the homeless who could not be reached on foot or by washed out roads, Bhattacharaya said.
