In a gesture to the new Palestinian government, Israel will begin releasing some of the hundreds of millions of dollars in Palestinian tax money it has frozen for more than a year, Israeli officials said Sunday. Miri Eisin, spokeswoman for Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, said at least $50 million (¤37 million) would be sent to the government of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Jacob Galanti, another official in Olmert's office, said the transfers would begin later Sunday, according to a report of the Associated Press.
