Pakistan has formally approached the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) to adopt a unanimous resolution and take effective action against the British government's decision to award knighthood to blasphemer Salman Rushdie, officials said. Pakistan has deplored the award of knighthood to the controversial figure and regretted that the British government showed insensitivity to the issue, which has hurt the feelings of Muslim Ummah (nation). Pakistan's foreign minister had summoned the British High Commissioner (ambassador) to lodge protest against the knighthood award to Rushdie.
