A top Iranian official said his country is closer to an agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency on its nuclear ambitions. The IRNA news service quoted Ali Larijani in Austria Friday night saying a "good framework" had been crafted that would be carried over into Saturday's session with European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana, UPI reported. The two sides are hammering out issues involving the inspection of Iran's controversial nuclear program. Tehran says the project is aimed at developing peaceful nuclear power plants. The West, however, suspects it is a cover for a weapons program. Larijani told reporters in Vienna that any agreement with the IAEA should reflect the fact that Iran has already been enriching uranium and should not "live in the past."
