Sharjah International Airport will build 20 additional aircraft tarmacs, bringing to 65 the total tarmacs at the airport on completion of undergoing expansion project. A Dh120 million contract to build 16 additional tarmacs for passenger planes, two for VIP aircrafts and two for airfreight aircrafts, was signed by Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Thani, Chairman of Sharjah Civil Defense Authority. ''Apart from delivery of high quality, quick services, the ongoing expansions are projected to boost the airport capacity to handle more than 8 million passengers a year. Development of tarmacs will take 14 months to complete, he added. He disclosed that works on the departure and arrival concourses had been achieved and the two facilities ''are now on the trial stage, according to a report of the UAE news agency "WAM."
