The Belgium Authority decided today to recognize Mosques as official worshiping places and grant it with legal approval as other recognized religious beliefs in the country. The sources of the executive Islamic Council in Belgium said the Walloon Region authorities decided to recognize 43 mosques spread over five provinces of the region, namely Hainaut, Liege, Luxembourg, Namur and Braban Wallon. On Tuesday, Philippe Courard, the Region's Minister for Interior and administration and representative of the Islamic Council will sign the agreement. Belgium officially recognized Islam in 1974 but it had not developed legislation and laws to include the recognition of Mosques. The sources added that Brussels-Capital Region and Flemish Region will tend to take on the recognition of Islamic mosque as Waloon region a.k.a Wallonia.
