Hamas political bureau chief Khaled Meshaal on Friday held the international community responsible for the outbreak of violence in Gaza and called for dialogue between Hamas and Fatah, in his first public comments since fierce clashes between the rival factions renewed last week, according to dpa. Meshaal called the current situation "grave and important," in a press conference Friday evening in the Syrian capital Damascus. He added that "Palestinians wouldn't accept dividing their land, Gaza for Hamas and the West Bank for Fatah." Hamas' armed wing seized full control of the Gaza Strip on Thursday after driving Fatah security forces out in intense clashes that killed more than 100 people during the week. Fatah retaliated by killing and arresting Hamas members in the West Bank - a Fatah stronghold. "Both Fatah and Hamas factions belong to the nation. Home is for all," Meshaal said. "Whoever is conspiring against us will not succeed." Meshaal said that they in Hamas respect their "fellows" in Fatah, who are partners in the "resistance." Hamas, Meshaal says, didn't have any intentions to take over the Palestinian Authority or rebel against the Palestinian political system. Meshaal, who leads Hamas' political bureau in exile in Syria, pointed accusing fingers at "powers deriving their strength from foreign entities aiming to make the unity government fail." Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday dissolved the Hamas-led unity government in response to Hamas' takeover of Gaza. According to Mesh'al, "lying off the Hamas government will not solve the disunity" in the Palestinian territoris. Mesh'al said Hamas wouldn't approve the deployment of international troops in Palestine. Meanwhile, Arab foreign ministers held an emergency meeting Friday evening to discuss the escalating situation in the Palestinian territories as well as in Lebanon.
