The Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development (ADCED) has signed an agreement with Statistics Sweden, the leading provider of statistical capacity building services, to establish a world class national statistical centre for Abu Dhabi, reported the UAE news agency WAM today. The first phase of the centre will be operating by the first quarter of 2008. The new statistical bureau will be capable of compiling and analyzing a full complement of economic, social and environmental data, serving the Government of the Emirate and the UAE Federal Government by publishing regular statistical reports reflecting the main trends in the development of the Emirate. Statistics Sweden, working jointly with ADCED and the Department of Planning and Economy, will be responsible for developing the national statistical system for the Emirate. It will also be responsible for the establishment of the actual statistics bureau entity as well as advising on internal processes and policies, the data management system and training staff to ensure standardized methodology in the development, collection, analysis and dissemination of statistical information. -- SPA
