An anti-G8 rally in the northern German city of Rostock erupted into a full-scale riot Saturday as protestors bent on violence clashed with police, hurling petrol bombs, fireworks and paving stones and setting fire to vehicles, according to DPA. Police responded with teargas grenades, water cannon and baton charges, as two helicopters monitored events from the air. Dozens of arrests were made. Police reported 146 officers injured, despite their protective riot gear. Some 25 suffered serious injuries. Several demonstrators were also injured, as marchers converged along two routes on the harbour for an anti-globalization rally and concert held under the slogan, "Another World is Possible." There were scenes of panic at the harbour, as peaceful demonstrators scattered to avoid teargas and baton charges.
