Five Britons have been kidnapped from the Iraqi Finance Ministry in central Baghdad, the British Foreign Office confirmed Tuesday, according to dpa. The four bodyguards and the client they were protecting were seized by up to 40 gunmen wearing Iraqi police uniforms, the BBC reported. British embassy staff in Baghdad were said to be in contact with the Iraqi authorities to secure "a swift resolution." In London, the government's crisis committee, known as Cobra, was due to meet later Tuesday to discuss the kidnappings, while a crisis team was being assembled.
