Malaysia and Kuwait today signed and exchanged documents to ratify the agreement for the avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion, and for the fostering of economic relations. According to the Malaysian news agency Bernama, the original agreement was signed on Feb 5, 2003, in Kuwait City and with today's signing signified the entry into force of the pact between the two nations. This exchange of documents was signed by Finance Ministry secretary-general Dr Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Abdullah while Kuwait was represented by Khalid Sulaiman Al-Jarallah, the Kuwaiti Undersecretary for the Foreign Affairs Ministry. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who is on a three-day visit to Malaysia. Prior to the signing, Abdullah, who is also Finance Minister, and Sheikh Nasser had a 30-minute closed-door discussion at the Prime Minister's office here. -- SPA
