DHABI ON 23 MAY 2006. THE CABINET APPROVED THE DRAFT MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING DEALING WITH BILATERAL POLITICAL CONSULTATIONS BETWEEN THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA AND THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY WHICH WAS SIGNED IN ANKARA, TURKEY, ON AUGUST 8, 2006. THE COUNCIL OF MINISTERS ALSO APPROVED THE NATIONAL PLAN FOR COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY WHICH CONSISTS OF A LONG AND SHORT PERSPECTIVES. ACCORDING TO THE LONG-TERM PERSPECTIVE, PLANNERS DREW A FUTURE VISION FOR THE COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SECTOR AIMING AT TRANSFERRING THE CURRENT SITUATION INTO AN INFORMATION SOCIETY AND A DIGITAL ECONOMY TO INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY AND PROVIDE SERVICES FOR ALL SEGMENTS OF SOCIETY, AND BUILD A STRONG INDUSTRY THAT BECOMES A MAIN SOURCE OF INCOME. ACCORDING TO THE SECOND PERSPECTIVE, THE FIVE-YEAR DEVELOPMENT PLAN PARTIALLY MEETS THE LONG-TERM PLAN OBJECTIVES AND LEADS TO IT THROUGH IMPLEMENTING A NUMBER OF PROGRAMS AND EXECUTIVE POLICIES. --MORE
