The National Progressive Front in Syria called on all Syrians to vote in a referendum on May 27 on a second term for President Bashar al-Assad, Syria's official news agency SANA reported Sunday. The central committee of the front, a political coalition of 10 parties led by the ruling Baath Party, said the May 27 referendum was "a referendum on continued steadfastness and resistance" for all Syrians, according to dpa. The new Syrian parliament approved unanimously the nomination of president al-Assad as a sole candidate for the presidency in Syria and set the date for a referendum on his second term. -- SPA
