Bilateral trade between the UAE and United States fell 25 per cent to US$2.67 billion (Dhs9.8 billion) during the first quarter of this year compared with US$3.54 billion (Dhs12.98 billion) during the same period last year, reported the official UAE news agency WAM today. According to a statement by the US Department of Commerce, the UAE's imports from the US fell 26 per cent to US$2.36 billion (Dhs8.66 billion) during the first three months of this year compared with US$3.2 billion (Dhs11.76 billion) during the first quarter of 2006. The value of the UAE's exports to the US fell by seven per cent to US$307.6 million (Dhs1.13 billion) during the first quarter of 2007 from US$331 million (Dhs1.22 billion) in the corresponding period last year. The deficit of the UAE balance of trade with the US fell by 29 per cent to US$2.05 billion (Dhs7.54 billion) during the first quarter of this year from US$2.87 billion (Dhs10.54 billion) in the same period last year. -- SPA
