Pakistan Upper House (Senate) Chairman Muhammadmian Soomro says there should be more frequent exchange of Pak-Japan parliamentary delegations in addition to students and businessmen. Talking to a three-member Japanese parliamentary delegation, he underscored the need of stepping up Pak-Japan parliamentary cooperation. Soomro invited Japanese businessmen and investors to explore business opportunities in Pakistan where the environment has become conducive due to the reforms introduced by the government in every sector of the economy. The Chairman recalled that he helped establish Pak-Japan Business forum back in 2001 and said he was also the patron of Pak-Japan Cultural Association. He expressed gratitude for Japan's generous assistance to Pakistan in mitigating the sufferings of the October 8 2005 earthquake victims and said the two countries could share their experiences in disaster management. Pakistan's commitment to combat terror is much older than 9/11 and it will continue to serve the cause of world peace by making consistent efforts to stamp out this scourge from our midst, Soomro said. He added that the current spate of terrorist incidents could not deter Pakistan from pursuing a policy of zero tolerance to terror, adding that the world community must acknowledge the services rendered by us in combating the terror and should firmly stand by us. Shin Sakurai, Member of the House of Councilors, who headed the Japanese delegation, endorsed Senate Chairman s view for more exchange of parliamentary delegations and sharing of experiences in disaster management.
