A group of 60 North Korean officials and laborers arrived in South Korea's southeastern city of Changwon today to take part in a joint celebration of Labor Day, reported South Korean news agency Yonhap. Led by Won Hyong-guk, a vice chairman of the North's General Federation of Trade Unions, the North Koreans arrived at Gimhae Airport just outside of Busan on a direct flight from Pyongyang. The North Koreans were scheduled to visit the branch offices of South Korea's two major labor umbrella organizations -- the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and the Federation of Korean Trade Unions -- in Changwon, an industrial city about 390 kilometers southeast of Seoul. Their trip will last until Wednesday, when they will return to the North Korean capital on a direct flight with their country's airline Air Koryo, their South Korean hosts here said. The visit, the first of its kind since the end of 1950-53 Korean War, is mainly aimed at holding joint events to celebrate the May 1st Labor Day. -- SPA
