Saggaf discussed some of those challenges with Saudi Aramco management. "We expect the construction manpower to increase to 35,000 workers by midyear and an increased traffic flow of as many as 7,000 vehicles per day," Al-Saggaf said. "We're dealing with a lot of heavy, oversized equipment and a huge number of work permits." He said communication is the key to safe coordination, with initial awareness meetings and orientations for arriving workers followed by weekly meetings to ensure that all workers on site know how to do their jobs safely. "We have improved excavation permits and are ensuring that all the work is being done in compliance with Saudi Aramco safety standards," Al-Saggaf said. "We also are focusing on management of change to analyze job safety issues, and we have a safety best-practices team." --MORE
