Eleven US soldiers were killed across war-ravaged Iraq during the 24 hours to Tuesday evening, sources said, according to DPA. As the US military announced that nine US soldiers were killed in a suicide car-bombing in Iraq, local media were reporting that two more soldiers were killed overnight north of Karbala. In the same incident, 20 other troops and an Iraqi civilian were injured when the attack took place Monday near their patrol base in Diyala province to the north-east of Baghdad. Of the injured, 12 were able to return to work after initial medical treatment, while eight were sent for further treatment, the military said. A separate car bomb Monday at a police checkpoint near Diyala's provincial council headquarters killed six police officers and wounded 13 others, one of whom later died. Another US soldier was killed Monday by anroadside bomb in Muqdadiyah, about 110 kilometres north-east of the capital. Near Karbala, an explosive device was detonated near a joint US- Iraqi convoy, killing two US soldiers and wounding three Iraqi servicemen, Voices of Iraq news agency quoted police sources as saying. The attack reportedly occurred in Husayniyah district, north of Karbala, which is 100 kilometres south of Baghdad.
