A Royal Air Force jet crashed Friday in north Wales, and rescue operations were under way, the Ministry of Defense said. The Hawk trainer crashed at midday at Mona in Anglesey, the Associated Press quoted the ministry as saying. «Initial reports suggest that the pilot has ejected safely,» North Wales police said. The two-seat plane entered service in 1976 as an advanced flying-training aircraft and a weapons-training aircraft. The Hawk T1 version is used at RAF Valley in Wales for fast-jet pilot advanced flying training, and the T1A is used for weapons and tactical training.
