A magnitude-5.4 earthquake shook southern Mexico early Thursday. There were no immediate reports of major damage or injuries. The pre-dawn quake was centered 265 kilometers (165 miles) southwest of Mexico City in the Pacific coast state of Guerrero, The Associated Press quoted the U.S. Geological Survey as saying. It followed a magnitude-6 earthquake on April 13 that knocked out power in parts of Acapulco and Mexico City, caused scattered gas and water leaks, and damaged some older buildings in the capital, forcing their evacuation. In Mexico City, officials were checking buildings that had reported possible structural damage in the earlier quake.
