Israeli Knesset speaker Dalia Yitzik arrived in Jordan Thursday, for talks on ways to revive Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking. Yitzik's visit comes hours after the Arab League picked Jordan and Egypt _ the only two Arab countries to have signed peace treaties with Israel _ to take the lead in approaching the Jewish state to promote a Saudi-drafted peace plan to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Associated Press reported. The plan is expected to dominate the talks between Jordan's King Abdullah II and Yitzik, who also is Israel's acting president. Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni was in Jordan Sunday, when she held talks with her Jordanian counterpart, Abdul-Illah al-Khatib, on the Middle East conflict. The Saudi plan _ introduced in 2002 and revived during and Arab summit held in Riyadh last month _ envisages full Arab recognition of Israel in return for an Israeli withdrawal from territories captured in the 1967 Middle East War. It also calls for Palestinian statehood.
