A mine blast has trapped 33 miners in central China, state media reported Tuesday, making it the latest in a string of such accidents. Xinhua News Agency said the miners were trapped Monday after an explosion at the mine in Henan province. It said rescue work was under way, but gave no other details, according to AP. China's coal mines are the world's deadliest, with numerous fires, floods and other disasters occurring every year despite repeated government promises to improve safety. The government says 4,750 people died in coal mine accidents last year _ an average of 13 a day. It is common for mine owners to delay reporting accidents or not report them at all. China, the world's largest coal producer and consumer, has more than 5 million coal miners. -- SPA
