The nuclear power target of 8,800 megawatts assigned to the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) is well within its reach by 2030 and six sites are being studied throughout Pakistan for location of these plants, said PAEC Chairman Anwer Ali. "We are in active contact with multiple sources and friends for negotiations to execute the programme," he said while talking to the reporters. Ali said that the estimated capacity of each plant would be 1000MW as the joint maintenance and operations of the plants is easy and economical, if they are of similar size. About other socio-economic contributions made by the PAEC, Ali said it is operating 13 Cancer Hospitals across Pakistan where more than 350,000 patients provided medical treatment annually and six more such units were under construction with emphasis to ensure provision of effective medical facilities to people of remote areas. The PAEC chief said that in agriculture domain, the PAEC has evolved more than 58 high yield crop varieties through research and development and more rigorous efforts are being made to further increase farm productivity.
