Saudi Newspapers, in their editorials today, highlighted the importance of the 19th Arab Summit starting its two-day deliberations on March 28th in Riyadh. The Dammam-based "Al-Youm" said the Kingdom's hosting of the Summit in the Saudi capital represents a true beginning for the joint Arab action which aims at building a strong nation that could devise its future on a path preserving its historic identity. On its part, the Jeddah-based "Okaz" said there is a general feeling with regard to challenges facing the Arab Nation at present, including what happens in Iraq; the Palestinian national unity government which deserve support; the volatile situation in Lebanon which is in need of the voice of reason to put an end to the current crisis as well as the latest development in Somalia and what is planned against Sudan. The Riyadh-based "Al-Jazerah" said there is a general belief among those preparing for the forthcoming Summit that the Arab Peace Initiatives submitted by the Kingdom at Beirut's Summit will be the core of discussions at the Summit without introducing any amendment on the initiatives. It pointed out that the Summit will focus on the Arab peace plan because it deals with the Palestinian cause. The newspaper expressed optimism that the summit will find a suitable mechanism to move forward towards practical steps to settle the Palestinian problems. --More
