King Abdullah II of Jordan asserted the importance of coordinating Arab stances and that the coming Arab summit should result in practical resolutions on the crucial challenges facing the Arab nation. According to a press statement released by the Jordanian Royal Court today, King Abdullah II said during his meeting with Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Saud Al-Faisal and his Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Aboul Gheit that the issues on the agenda of this summit require Arab States joint work and unificaiton of their stances, especially reviving the Arab peace initiative adopted by the Arab Beirut summit in 2002. He also reviewed the outcome of his recent visit to the United States and his meeting with President George Bush during which they focused on the need to exploit the opportunities currently available in order to expedite finding a just solution to the Palestinian issue, stressing that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the Palestinian land is the basis for ending violence and instability in the region. In this context, he said that the conditions experienced by the Palestinian people at this stage require an Arab intensive movement at all levels to assist in lifting the economic embargo imposed on them, pointing to the need to support the Palestinian Authority to build Palestinian institutions which constitute the core of the independent state. The Monarch reviewed the efforts exerted to form a Palestinian National Unity government and the importance of such in lifting the siege from the Palestinian people and paving the way for launching peace negotiations in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy and Arab peace initiative. They also discussed the situation in Iraq where they reemphasized the importance of finding a way out of the current deteriorating situation .
