Faisal said we hope that Iran, based on the leverage it might have on some circles in Lebanon, would contribute to what could lead to naturalization among Lebanese warring factions and pave the way for a solution under normal circumstances. On the free trade arrangement between the EU and the GCC, Solana expressed hope that the long-awaited agreement could come out of Doha meeting where representatives of the two bodies are now discussing the issue. On Lebanon, Solana expressed wish that the Lebanese factions could reach a compromising solution to the crisis. He said Europe is cooperating with Lebanon through the UNIFIL, lauding the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's "magnificent" contribution to the stability of Lebanon. We will spare no effort, but we don't have right now a ready-made solution of the Lebanese problem (to be announced) before the (convening) of the Arab summit, Solana said. On the Palestinian unity government, Solana said Europe would never upset the Palestinian people. We have provided money for them in 2005 and 2006 and will continue to pour much in 2007, he added. No government has been formed yet, but we would like to see the right person in the right place, he said, adding that we would like to see a government dedicated to the interest of the Palestinian people. Concluding the conference, Prince Saud Al-Faisal rejected proposals by Israel that some changes should be drawn on the Arab peace initiative during the Arab summit in Riyadh, saying that Israel initially accepted the plan, but started to speak about conditioned agreement while the Arabs don't have conditions. We don't have a plan to negotiate a conditioned matter, he concluded.
