The president of the German parliament has proposed closer ties with the Polish parliament, along the lines of the relationship between the German and French legislatures, according to a report in the Monday edition of the Lausitzer Rundschau newspaper published by the Deutsche Presse Agentur dpa. Bundestag Speaker Norbert Lammert intends that improved cooperation with the Sejm might ease the currently difficult relations between the two European Union neighbours, the report says. He pointed to a planned agreement on regular meetings between the top officials of the two parliaments and between certain parliamentary committees that is to be signed by Sejm Speaker Marek Jurek in Berlin on Tuesday.
