Iraqi President Jalal Talabani will leave hospital soon, AP QUOTED his personal physician as saying Wednesday, but declined to give an exact date. Talabani, 73, who collapsed Sunday suffering from exhaustion and dehydration caused by lung and sinus infections, is now in «excellent shape» and has «no clinical problems at all,» Yedgar Hishmat told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. The Iraqi president was flown to Jordan late Sunday and admitted to the al-Hussein Medical City in the capital, Amman. «The only thing preventing him from leaving the hospital is that he must continue the treatment completely, and it will be very soon,» Hishmat said. Earlier in the week, Hishmat, who accompanied Talabani from Iraq, dismissed rumors that the president also had a heart problem. In Baghdad, presidential spokesman Kamran Qaradaghi said Tuesday that Talabani had shown a «clear and tangible improvement» and that his «spirits are high.»
