THE MINISTRY OF MUNICIPAL AND RURAL AFFAIRS AFFIRMED ITS CONCERN FOR THE HEALTH OF CONSUMERS AND SAFETY OF IMPORTED AND LOCAL FOOD PRODUCTS. REFERRING TO NEWSPAPER REPORTS ON THE ISSUE OF THE SAFETY OF SOME FOOD PRODUCTS, TAHINI, THICK SAUCE MADE OF SESAME OIL, AND HALVAH, THE MINISTRY SAID THAT PARTS OF THE PRODUCTS VIOLATED SAUDI STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS, BUT WHAT WAS DISCOVERED DOES NOT REPRESENT A PHENOMENON CAUSING CONCERN AND ON ITS BASIS, NO JUDGMENT CAN BE MADE ON ALL PRODUCTS IN THE MARKET. THE MINISTRY SAID MUNICIPAL VIOLATIONS ARE ALWAYS PUNISHED AND VIOLATING PRODUCTS ARE SEIZED. PRODUCERS AND IMPORTERS ARE MADE TO CORRECT THE STATUS OF THEIR PRODUCTS TO CONFORM WITH SAUDI STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS.
