The manager of Saudi Aramco's Reservoir Management Department, Dr. Nansen G. Saleri, delivered a presentation here Monday entitled "The Technology Factor: How It's Changing Upstream Performance" as part of a panel discussion on upstream technology at the Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA) 26th Annual Executive Conference. The talk focused on how continued advances in upstream technologies - such as smart wells, I-Field, and geosteering - are rapidly changing the upstream business and setting the stage for increasing global supplies, both from conventional and unconventional resources. Saleri noted how Saudi Aramco is able to maximize the efficiency of its oil operations through the judicious application of technologies such as real-time diagnostics, maximum reservoir contact (MRC) wells, and geosteering. On Feb. 14, during a panel session entitled "Not running out just yet: The long-term availability of oil and gas," Saleri, alongside other panelists, was slated to debate the science behind peak oil through a multi-scenario perspective.
