U.S. automaker Chrysler will cut 2,000 employees in Canada as part of global layoffs expected to be announced next week, an Ottawa newspaper said Thursday. According to the Globe and Mail newspaper, Canadian staff cuts would represent about 20 percent of the more than 10,000 layoffs planned worldwide by Chrysler, a division of Daimler Chrysler AG. The Detroit News reported Monday that Chrysler would announce worker reductions and factory closures on February 14. The Globe and Mail said Canadian job cuts would affect plants in Brampton and Windsor, Ontario, where Chrysler employs 11,500 people.
