Bangladeshi army troops on Friday arrested a former lawmaker in a pre-dawn raid in the capital after a nationwide state of emergency was declared, a police official said. The soldiers arrested Kamal Majumder, a member of the Awami League party and a former lawmaker, from his home in Dhaka's Banani residential district, Dhaka Metropolitan Police official Jasim told The Associated Press by phone. He said the army handed over Majumder to police after the arrest on early Friday, but later took him back for interrogation. Jasim uses only one name.
