The situation in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo dominated talks on Thursday between Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg and the U.S. State Department's top official for European Affairs, AP reported. U.S. Assistant Secretary Daniel Fried informed Schwarzenberg about the current U.S. position on Iraq, where President George W. Bush plans to boost U.S. troop strength, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement. The ministry did not comment on the plan to send more than 20,000 additional combat troops to Iraq. The two also discussed the involvement of NATO in the stabilization of Afghanistan, and the future status of Kosovo, the Serbian province under U.N. administration, the statement said. The Czech Republic currently has troops deployed in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Balkans, including Kosovo.
