Nearly 100 refugees, including women and children, arrived Sunday in Sant'Ilario Ionio on the coast of Italy's southern Calabria region, according to Deutsche Presse Agentur dpa. The migrants, who police said had set out from Turkey 10 days earlier, were found by fishermen in a 20-metre boat, Ansa news agency reported. The countries of origin of the migrants varied. The group was said to be in good health despite its ordeal and was taken to an accommodation centre. This is the first major arrival of illegal migrants in Italy since the beginning of the year. Every year, thousands of migrants undertake the perilous journey across the Mediterranean Sea to southern Europe. Most set out from North Africa en route to Italy or Spain.
