At least 20 people have died in Brazil due to heavy rain that has fallen since Wednesday in the country's industrialised south-eastern region, authorities said in a preliminary report, according to DPA. The rain caused a house to collapse killing at least five people in the town of Sumidouro, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The fire brigade kept up rescue efforts on Friday, and they fear they may find four more people who are missing. A landslide in the same town buried a vehicle as it travelled on a road, causing the death of a father and son in the car. The heavy rain was also blamed for a bus accident in the state of Minas Gerais, which left at least three people dead and six others critically injured. In Nova Friburgo, in Rio state, seven people - including five children between the ages of six and 11 - died when their homes were buried in landslides. In the neighbouring town of Teresopolis a roof collapsed at a bar, killing a couple dead. In Jundiai, in the state of Sao Paulo and about 60 kilometres away from the state capital of the same name, a six-year-old boy died as a result of another landslide.
