AMR MOUSA, THE SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE ARAB LEAGUE, HAS REITERATED THE SUPPORT OF THE SAUDI AND EGYPTIAN LEADERSHIPS TO HIS INITIATIVE AND CONTACTS PERTAINING TO THE SITUATION IN LEBANON. IN A STATEMENT PUBLISHED IN BEIRUT-BASED AL-SAFEER NEWSPAPER TODAY, MOUSA SAID LEADERS OF OTHER ARAB COUNTRIES LIKE SUDAN, YEMEN AND ALGERIA HAVE VOICED SIMILAR SUPPORT. MOUSA POINTED OUT THAT IRANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER MANUCHEHR MOTAKI HAS BEEN IN PERMANENT CONTACTS WITH HIM IN THIS RESPECT. MOUSA WARNED AGAINST TURNING LEBANON INTO ANOTHER IRAQ IN CASE THE ARAB INITIATIVE IS AT A DEADLOCK. MOUSA SAID THE RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTER HAS INFORMED HIM WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE RUSSIAN PRESIDENT TO THE ARAB INITIATIVE AND THE IMPORTANCE OF SOLVING THE LEBANESE CRISIS THROUGH DIALOGUE.
