An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.2 shook parts of northeast Indonesia late Tuesday night, according to U.S. geological monitors, but no immediate damage or casualties were reported, according to AP. The quake was detected at 11:48 p.m. (1548 GMT) and was 211 kilometers (132 miles) beneath the Celebes Sea, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. It was some 249 kilometers (155 miles) north of Manado on Sulawesi, Indonesia, and about 272 kilometers (169 miles) south of Mindanao in the Philippines. Later in the day, another undersea quake of magnitude 5.0 struck Aceh province, the Indonesian region hardest-hit by the 2004 Asian tsunami, said Jakarta's office of the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency. There were no reports of damage or casualties from the earthquake which struck at 00:21 p.m. (0521 GMT) and was centered about 48 kilometers (30 miles) south of Banda Aceh.
