Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe Monday held discussions with the head of the UN's World Food Programme, telling him foreign aid was welcome as long as it comes without political conditions, state radio was quoted by Deutsche Presse Agentur dpa. The veteran Zimbabwean leader met James Morris - who is also UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's humanitarian envoy for southern Africa - in the capital Harare for closed door discussions, the report said. Mugabe expressed willingness to accept assistance offered by the international organization, but only if there is no interference in the internal affairs of Zimbabwe, sources privy to the discussions said. Morris, who has already visited Zambia and Malawi on a farewell tour of the food-strapped region, has been trying to urge donor nations to dig deep into their pockets to fund feeding programmes.
