A sports car prototype that was being tested on Germany's no-speed-limits autobahn system spun out of control in a quarter-million-dollar crash, police said Wednesday according to Deutsche Presse Agentur dpa. At the request of the manufacturer, police declined to identify the make of car. On police photos of the wreckage, the front of the two-seater car was sheared off, but the streamlined hatchback rear resembled a Porsche more than it did any other well-known marques. Manufacturers keep the road-testing of cars a close secret, sometimes disguising new models to foil reporters. Police said the car was going too fast when it snagged a centre barrier near the city of Koblenz on Tuesday, bounced against an articulated truck in the slow lane and spun several times. The test driver stepped unscathed from the shattered car, a 180,000-euro (232,000-dollar) write-off. Other damage, including two other vehicles which hit the debris, was estimated at 10,000 euros.
