Iran on Saturday once again called on the European Union to return to the negotiation table to find a diplomatic settlement in the dispute over Iran's controversial nuclear programmes. "Our sincere recommendation (to the EU) is to maintain its independence, return to the negotiations table and not refer to measures which have already been carried out in vain," DPA quoted Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki as saying at a press conference in Tehran. The foreign minister was referring to possible sanctions by the United Nations Security Council against Iran due to its non- compliance with resolution 1696 to suspend its uranium enrichment programme. "We see no logic in suspension as our nuclear programmes are legal and fully in line with the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) but we are still prepared to raise this issue in negotiations, as well" Mottaki said. "But if sanctions were imposed on Iran, then we will announce our new position," the minister added without giving further details.
