British police are searching for a suspected terrorist who escaped from a mental health hospital two weeks ago, officials said Monday, according to AP. Police believe the British man, who has not been identified, fled through a window of the center in London. Authorities had accused him of attempting to travel to Iraq to fight alongside insurgents. The man was being held on a control order _ a form of curfew and other measures similar to house arrest. British authorities have used control orders to restrict the activities of terror suspects who they are unable to immediately prosecute. A government official, who spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to discuss the matter, confirmed the man had escaped and had been missing for around two weeks. London's Metropolitan police said it was investigating the report. Britain's Home Office, responsible for the control order regime, said it would not discuss the case. «Since control orders were the Government's flagship anti-terrorism measure, this is a huge embarrassment for them,» said opposition Liberal Democrat lawmaker Nick Clegg.
