A German frigate docked at Beirut on Sunday to take charge of the multinational naval force patrolling Lebanon's coastline to prevent arms smuggling into Lebanon, according to AP. German ships replaced an Italian naval force that has been patrolling the coast in line with a U.N.-brokered cease-fire resolution that ended 34 days of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah guerrillas on Aug. 14. A handover ceremony was held at Beirut port aboard the Italian aircraft carrier Giuseppe Garibaldi. The German frigate docked at the port about 500 meters from Garibaldi.
