The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will get new ATR aircraft one each in November and December 2006, January 2007 and four in May 2007, officials said. The PIA has ordered a total of 7 new ATR out of which first was delivered earlier this year. The airline has temporarily grounded one ATR due component failure which is to be acquired from outside. Once the component is replaced, the aircraft will be able to fly again. The PIA has plans to use the F-27s along with sequential arrival of ATR to meet its domestic schedule requirements. The plan had envisaged grounding of one F-27 for every new ATR that was delivered to PIA and thus, replacing the entire Fokker 27 Fleet with newly acquired ATR.
