Children are the first victims of diarrhea and other fatal diseases when they have no access to basic sanitation and water, the UN Children's Children Fund (UNICEF)said Thursday, according to DPA. UNICEF said in a new study that some 2.6 billion people, out of the world's 6.5 billion people, still lack access to those two basic needs despite efforts to provide clean drinking water and sanitation facility to poor country. Adults and children who still have no access to water are mostly in Asia and Africa. The UN had set a target year of 2015 to provide clean drinking water and sanitation to half of the billions of people who do not have them. The UNICEF report said there was still time to meet the target and it called on governments to redouble efforts.
