THE LENGTH OF ROAD PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED IN THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA AMOUNTED TO MORE THAN 172,000 KILOMETER AT THE FISCAL YEAR 1425-1426. THESE ROAD NETWORKS INCLUDE 53,000 KILOMETER OF ASPHALTED ROADS AS WELL AS ABOUT 119, 000 KILOMETER OF PAVED AGRICULTURAL ROADS. THE ROAD PROJECTS WERE IMPLEMENTED IN LINE WITH THE MOST LATEST STANDARDS IN THE FIELD OF NETWORKS AT THE WORLD LEVEL. THE MOST IMPORTANT ROADS INCLUDE RIYADH-TAIF ROAD, 750 KILOMETER, MAKKAH-MADINAH ROAD, 421 KILOMETER, JEDDAH-MAKKAH ROAD, 60 KILOMETER, RIYADH-QASSIM ROAD, 317 KILOMETER, RIYADH-DAMMAM ROAD, 383 KILOMETER, RIYADH-AL-SILEIL ROAD, 560 KILOMETER, JEDDAH-JIZAN ROAD, 725 KILOMETER, AND MADINAH-TABUK ROAD, 680 KILOMETER. CURRENTLY THE MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT IS IMPLEMENTING A NUMBER OF ROAD PROJECTS WITH A LENGTH OF MORE THAN 24,000 KILOMETER AT A COST OF MORE THAN SR 22 BILLION. TO ENSURE EXCELLENT SERVICES IN THE SECTOR OF LAND TRANSPORT, THE SAUDI ARABIAN PUBLIC TRANSPORT COMPANY (SAPTCO) WAS ESTABLISHED MORE THAN 25 YEARS AGO. THE SAUDI GOVERNMENT HAS GIVEN ALSO A GREAT ATTENTION TO THE MODERN ROADS THAT LINK THE KINGDOM WITH YEMEN, KUWAIT, JORDAN, QATAR, THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES (UAE) AND OMAN. KING FAHD CAUSEWAY WHICH LINKS SAUDI ARABIA WITH BAHRAIN WAS INAUGURATED BY CUSTODIAN OF THE TWO HOLY MOSQUES LATE KING FAHD BIN ABDULAZIZ ON NOVEMBER 25, 1987.
