PRINCE SAUD ALFAISAL, SAUDI FOREIGN MINISTER AND LEADER OF THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA'S DELEGATION TO THE 61ST SESSION OF THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY, HAS CONFIRMED THE KEENNESS OF THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA ON ASSISTING THE IRAQI PEOPLE TO OVERCOME THE CURRENT ORDEAL AND ON NO-INTERFERENCE IN IRAQ'S INTERNAL AFFAIRS POLICY. ADDRESSING A HIGH-LEVEL MEETING ON IRAQ, HELD AT THE HEADQUARTERS OF THE UNITED NATIONS IN NEW YORK TODAY, PRINCE SAUD SAID THE MEETING WAS HELD AT AN INVITATION OF THE UNITED NATIONS SECRETARY GENERAL KOFI ANNAN AIMING AT MOBILIZING INTERNATIONAL SUPPORT FOR IRAQ WITHIN AN INTERNATIONAL CHARTER TO GARNER EFFORTS TO ASSIST A COUNTRY THAT WAS DEVASTATED BY WARS AND HIT BY DIFFICULT INTERNAL POLITICAL SITUATIONS OVER THE LAST DECADES. PRINCE SAUD SAID THAT AFTER TWO YEARS OF THE ISSUANCE OF THE UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION NO 1546 AND MORE THAN FOUR YEARS OF THE ENTRY OF THE ALLIED FORCES TO BAGHDAD, IRAQ IS STILL MARRED BY INSTABILITY AND SECTARIAN VIOLENCE AND EVERY DAY WITNESSING DIFFERENCES AMONG THE IRAQIS, A SITUATION THAT MIGHT AUGER ILL IN THE NEAR AND FAR FUTURE. HE SAID CIVIL WARS ARE THE MOST UGLIEST THAT COULD INFLICT ANY COUNTRY AS THEY LEAVE NO WINNERS BUT MORE AND MORE VICTIMS. HE SAID IRAQ OF TODAY IS IN BAD NEED FOR NO-INTERFERENCE IN ITS INTERNAL AFFAIRS OR NO VIOLATION OF ITS INDEPENDENCE AND SOVEREIGNTY, LEAVING INITIATIVES TO DEVELOP THE NEW EXPERIENCE COMING FROM INSIDE THE COUNTRY AND REFLECTING AN INDEPENDENT FREE WILL OF THE IRAQI PEOPLE. --MORE
