Pakistan is hosting the 2nd meeting of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Technical Committee on Science and Technology and Meteorology in Islamabad on August 28 and 29, says an official statement. The delegation from member countries i.e. Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka have started reaching Islamabad. Federal Minister for Science and Technology Nouraiz Shakoor Khan will inaugurate the meeting. Besides delegates from the SAARC countries, the diplomats from the SAARC nations, international donor agencies and SAARC observer countries will be present in the conference. The SAARC Technical Committee on Science and Technology submits its implementation reports to SAARC Ministerial Committee on Science and technology on annual basis for consideration by the Head of Sates of SAARC Countries. Presently the SAARC Chairmanship is with Bangladesh and Pakistan is the Chairman of the Technical Committee on Science and Technology and Meteorology. The delegates from member countries will discuss the progress on the calendar of activities adopted at the recommendations made in the first meeting held in Islamabad on May 10-11 2004. The committee will consider programme and calendar of activities for 2007-08. The programme and activities include different area of cooperation among SAARC countries in the field of Science and Technology and Meteorology.
