The death toll from monsoon-driven floods in India's northern desert state of Rajasthan topped 100 on Sunday even as scores were feared drowned in the swirling flood-waters, local media reported. At least 103 people were killed in incidents of drowning and houses collapsing since August 23 when heavy rains started lashing 12 of the state's 32 districts, the CNN-IBN TV network reported. A majority of the deaths were reported from the state's southern Barmer district, where five villages, Kawas, Malwa, Badka, Batadu and Chokla were submerged under 20 feet of water, according to a report of "DPA," -- the German news agency. Federal Ministers including Junior Home Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal who visited the flood-hit areas described the situation as "very critical" and estimated that between 150 to 300 people could have died in the heavy rains.
