Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad-Reza Baqeri arrived here last night on a three-day official visit to Egypt. Baqeri is scheduled to hold talks with Secretary-General of Arab League Amr Moussa and Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit. Speaking to "IRNA" news agency at Cairo airport, Baqeri said his visit was aimed at briefing Egyptian officials on Iran's response to the package of incentives offered to Tehran by the six world powers. A package of incentives was offered to Tehran on June 6 by five permanent members of the UN Security Council -- China, Russia, Britain, France and the United States -- plus Germany (Group 5+1). Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani presented Tehran's response to ambassadors of the Group 5+1 as well as Swiss envoy who is acting caretaker of US interests in the Islamic Republic of Iran on August 22. Prior to his visit to Egypt, Baqeri travelled to Syria. He is also to pay visits to some other regional Arab states.
