KING ABDULLAH CHAIRS CABINET'S SESSION
Published in Saudi Press Agency on 21 - 08 - 2006

CUSTODIAN OF THE TWO HOLY MOSQUES KING ABDULLAH BIN ABDULAZIZ CHAIRED A SESSION HELD BY THE COUNCIL OF MINISTERS HERE TODAY.
AT THE OUTSET OF THE SESSION, THE KING BRIEFED THE COUNCIL ON THE CONTACTS AND MEETINGS HE HELD WITH LEADERS AND ENVOYS OF COUNTRIES ON BILATERAL RELATIONS, ISSUES OF THE REGION AND THE WORLD, AND THE SITUATION IN BOTH LEBANON AND THE PALESTINIAN TERRITORIES.
IN A STATEMENT TO SAUDI PRESS AGENCY FOLLOWING THE SESSION, MINISTER OF CULTURE AND INFORMATION MR. IYAD BIN AMEEN MADANI SAID THE COUNCIL AFFIRMED THE SAUDI SUPPORT FOR THE LEBANESE GOVERNMENT AND THE UNITY OF THE LEBANESE DECISION IN CONFRONTING THE ISRAELI ATTACKS. THE COUNCIL UNDERLINED THE NEED FOR ALL PARTIES' ADHERENCE TO THE SECURITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION 1701 AND THE CONTINUED SAUDI PROVISION OF AID TO THE LEBANESE STATE AND PEOPLE THROUGH LEBANON'S CONSTRUCTION FUND TO WHICH THE KINGDOM CONTRIBUTED, AND WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE JOINT ARAB EFFORTS DISCUSSED BY ARAB FOREIGN MINISTERS IN THEIR MEETING YESTERDAY, SUNDAY 26/7/1427 H., IN CAIRO FOR LEBANON'S REBUILDING.
THE COUNCIL ALSO UNDERLINED THAT THE SECURITY AND STABILITY OF THE REGION AND THE FUTURE OF PEACE DEPEND ON FINDING A JUST, COMPREHENSIVE AND SPEEDY SOLUTION TO THE ARAB-ISRAELI CONFLICT AND TO THE PALESTINIAN CAUSE, AND THAT ASSASSINATIONS, ARRESTS AND KIDNAPPINGS THAT ISRAEL PRACTICES IN THE OCCUPIED PALESTINIAN TERRITORIES WILL NOT PROVIDE ISRAEL WITH PEACE AND SECURITY.
THE COUNCIL STATED THAT THE UNITED STATED OF AMERICA AND THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY IN GENERAL SHOULD SHOULDER THEIR RESPONSIBILITY IN STOPPING THESE ISRAELI POLICIES AND PRACTICES AND IN PUSHING FORWARD THE PEACE PROCESS IN LINE WITH INTERNATIONAL LEGITIMACY RESOLUTIONS, HUMAN RIGHTS AGREEMENTS AND INTERNATIONAL CONVENTIONS AND CHARTERS GOVERNING PRINCIPLES AND ETHICS OF THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY.
